FAQ’s

What is Home Infusion Therapy?

Home infusion therapy is the administration of medications through a needle or a catheter. It is prescribed when a patient’s condition cannot be treated effectively by oral medications and is characteristically provided through non-oral routes.

What are the most common IV therapies?

The most common drug therapies that can be administered at home include: antibiotics, chemotherapy, IV nutrition, IVIG, pain management, and hydration.

What diagnoses can be treated with IV therapy?

Examples include infections that have failed oral antibiotics; other severe infections such as cellulitis, upper respiratory infection, recurrent or chronic urinary tract infections, osteomyelitis, endocarditis, and MRSA; immune and neurological disorders; cancers, dehydration, and pain.

Why should I choose home infusion versus going to the hospital?

1. Home infusion therapy is more cost effective than in-patient hospital stays. In addition, the risk of opportunistic infections is decreased.
2. Most patients prefer receiving IV therapy in the privacy and comfort of their own homes, on their own schedule. Home treatment promotes a faster recovery, better patient outcomes, and an improved quality of life.
